Meet the Tutors at Onstage Voice

Mark Goldthorp: Artistic Director and Head of Acting

Mark Goldthorp has been a professional actor for twenty years, he is currently appearing in Mary Poppins (Prince Edward); other West End shows include: Sunset Boulevard (ENO); Les Miserables, (Palace); Avenue Q (Noel Coward) the box office smash Matilda (Cambridge) and the Olivier award-winning Into the Woods (Regent’s Park).


For the last ten years, he has also been the vice-principal and head of musical theatre for the American Musical Theatre Academy which has seen him work all over the world spreading his passion for singing and acting. Mark has written written four original plays; All things nice (White Bear) Janus Table (Lost Theatre) Stretched & A Piece of you (Amta studios) 


As well as a member of the Magic Circle and illusions consultant on Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Mark is also a respected composer winning the Julian Slade Song Writing competition two years running. Mark has directed a variety of successful shows, including The Drowsy Chaperone, Merrily We Roll Along and his personal favourite Into the Woods.

Luis Garcia: Artistic Director and Head of Singing

Luis trained at one of the world's leading conservatoires and drama schools, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He has toured and performed all over the world but has spent the last ten years working with singers and helping to refine the craft of voice technique.

Luis has worked with performers appearing in many West End and Broadway shows such as, Six, Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Hamilton, Book of Mormon, The Lion King, Porgy and Bess, Motown, West Side Story, Little Shop of Horrors, and many more.

Luis was a pupil of the legendary bel canto singer and scholar, Michael Rhodes and worked with him refining exercises of the bel canto tradition to help singers’ specific vocal challenges in the musical theatre genre. Luis worked with legendary coaches Paul Hamburger and at Covent Garden with Mark Packwood. Recently Luis has contributed towards research as part of a research based doctorate developing methodology for healthy long term signing within the genre of modern musical theatre. He founded the ‘Open Voice’ methodology and has continued its ongoing development and recently began applying those principles to furthering the research within the AWS and Linux.

He is presently on faculty at Goldsmiths University where he continues his work with ‘Open Voice’ and is passionate about teaching the next generations of singers.

Kirsty Hoiles: Acting through song

Kirsty has worked extensively in Theatre and as a practitioner working for a number of years on the education outreach programs at the Almeida as well as the Theatre museum in London. Kirsty specialises in Acting Through Song and Text incorporating a vast knowledge of the History of theatre.

 Kirsty is currently appearing as Tanya in Mamma Mia! (Novello Theatre). Other West End Credits include Betty Blue Eyes (Novello Theatre), Gone With the Wind (New London Theatre) and Les Miserables (Queens Theatre). In November 2009 Kirsty won the TMA Award for Best Supporting Performance in a musical for playing Young Viv in Spend Spend Spend at the Watermill Theatre, directed by Craig Revel Horwood; the production went on to tour nationally in 2010. Other work includes The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole (Leicester Curve), The Three Musketeers (Rose Theatre, Kingston), Arthur and George (Birmingham Rep and Nottingham Playhouse)

Richard Pryal: Classical Text, Script Study

Richard trained at the Royal Central school of speech and Drama. Richard has recently finished a season at the RSC in King John. Other credits include; The plough and the stars (National Theatre); An enemy of the people (Chichester Festival Theatre); Caught, Hamlet is dead, No Gravity (Arcola) She stoops to Conquer (Bath Theatre Royal); The lion the witch and the wardrobe (Rose Theatre) Three Sisters (Young Vic); The Tempest, Love’s Labour’s Lost (Oxford Shakespeare Company)

Richard has a wealth of experience teaching Classical Text, Acting and Script study and some of the top Drama Schools in London.

Dianne Pilkington: Masterclass and Repertoire Presentation

Dianne Pilkington trained at the Guildford School of Acting where she achieved the Principal’s Award on graduating. 

She has had an impressive career beginning when she joined the West End production of Les Miserables. since then she has played numerous leading roles primarily in the West End in musicals and comedies, roles as diverse as Glinda in Wicked, to Donna in Mamma Mia!. Dianne has also appeared in the feature films Les Miserables and Wolfman. Dianne went straight from Young Frankenstein in to her 14th West End show!! 

Currently starring as Raquel in Only Fools and Horses. Dianne brings years of experience and a huge amount of stagecraft to offer to students. Dianne specialises in Repertoire Presentation and Audition technique. 

Katherine Skene: Guest Masterclass tutor

Katherine has been working in casting for several years, beginning her career as the casting assistant for Selladoor Worldwide before spending the majority of her time as the casting assistant for Pippa Ailion Casting.
Katherine is a probationary member of the Casting Director’s Guild and recently won
Best Casting in a Musical
at the CDG Awards in February 2020 for the musical
Come From Away.
